Ustad Noor Bakhsh
comes from near Pasni in the Balochistan region and has been playing Benju since childhood. Despite not having a cell phone or internet access, he released his debut album in 2022, at the age of 78. The ethnomusicologist Daniyal Ahmed supported him. The Benju is a keyed zither found in the music of the Sindhis and Baloch people of Pakistan and Iran. Bakhsh combines traditional music from his homeland with Persian, Kurdish, South Indian and Bollywood influences and thus promotes cultural encounters between Sindhis and Baluchis.
Daniyal Ahmed:
is a lecturer in music, anthropology and ethnomusicology at Habib University in Karachi
